It’s important to continue to highlight the issues surrounding gambling related harm and how it affects many individuals and also their families throughout the UK. Therefore, hosting an event at Westminster, alongside GambleAware, was an ideal opportunity to bring together regulators and key stakeholders who either campaign on issues concerning gambling-related harm or provide treatment services to those with gambling addiction.
GambleAware undertake important work in funding gambling treatment and I was fortunate to visit the National Problem Gambling Clinic and see, first-hand, the excellent work being undertaken by Dr Henrietta Bowden-Jones to support those suffering from gambling related harm.
The UK Government’s consultation on gaming machines, including FOBTs, closes two weeks today and it’s important they take drastic action on reducing the stake on these machines and identify funding that can be made available to tackle gambling addiction. The APPG on FOBTs will be making a submission to the consultation urging the Government to reduce the stake to £2 per spin.
