Organ Donation Week which takes place between the 4th and 10 September.
Organ Donation Week provides an opportunity for the organ donation and transplant community to promote organ donation nationally and locally, whilst highlighting the importance of organ donation and celebrating those who have saved lives. On average, three people die each day in need of an organ transplant. Despite an overall increase in organ donation in recent years, the UK has some of the lowest family consent rates for organ donation in the Western world.
The Scottish Government announced it intends to introduce legislation for a soft opt out system of organ and tissue donation. Public Health Minister Aileen Campbell has confirmed plans to bring forward legislation during this Parliament after 82% of consultation responses supported the move.

More people are requiring a transplant which means we require more people to add their name to the organ donation register. I would encourage people to learn more about organ donation and what it would mean for them and also those who might benefit.
