Today, I undertook a visit to Kilmacolm to meet with representatives of Virgin Media to learn more about their roll out of fibre to the premises (FTTP) in the village. This is part of Virgin Media’s ‘Supercharging Local Communities’ initiative, which has seen a UK-wide search for local communities that could benefit from the expansion of their ultrafast broadband network.
Kilmacolm was selected by Virgin Media to benefit from their £3bn Project Lightning investment, to provide ultrafast broadband direct to residents front doors.
I continue to receive correspondence from constituents in Inverclyde who are looking for improvements to their broadband service. The roll-out of ultrafast broadband direct to residents front doors, in Kilmacolm, is a welcome development and will allow households to utilise broadband on a much faster scale.
During the discussion, I mentioned to Virgin Media representatives that other communities, businesses and towns in Inverclyde are looking for improved broadband access and speeds. I welcome the news that Virgin Media is looking to expand its roll-out in Inverclyde and they’ve had a positive working relationship with the local authority in delivering fibre to the premise.
