UK Government’s Review of Gaming Machines and Social Responsibility Measures

I welcome the submission by the all-party parliamentary group on FOBTs to the UK Government’s Review of Gaming Machines and Social Responsibility Measures.

The evidence shows these machines are directly linked to problem gambling with 4 out of 5 FOBT gamblers exhibiting problem gambling behaviour at stakes in excess of £13 a spin compared to 1 in 5 at stakes £2 and under.

The Government has a duty to protect the most vulnerable in our society and to act in the public interest. The Group strongly urge the Government to do so and with immediate effect.

The FOBT APPG is a cross party group of Parliamentarians with members from the main political parties and from both Houses of Parliament. It was established in May 2016 in response to the growth of concerns within Parliament about the impacts of Fixed Odds Betting Terminals and the very high stakes of £100, with a recorded account, which can be played on them.
