I’ve secured a meeting with the Minister for Digital and Culture, Matt Hancock MP, to discuss broadband access and speeds in Inverclyde.
In Inverclyde the BDUK scheme has made superfast broadband available to 4,342 more premises. The following postcodes in Inverclyde have been provided with full or partial coverage of Superfast Broadband between April and June 2016: PA19 1RH, PA19 1RJ, PA19 1UB, PA19 1RN, PA16 7NY, PA16 7NW, PA16 7NU, PA16 7NX.
I will meet with the Minister for Digital and Culture at the end of November.
Alongside this, I will also be meeting with representatives of Openreach and Digital Scotland, on Monday 14th November, to discuss the issue further.
The issue of broadband is one that is raised with me on a regular basis by constituent’s in Inverclyde. Hundreds of whom contacted me through the ‘Give us the internet we need’ campaign, to highlight their frustrations with broadband access and speeds. Therefore, this is a subject I’ve taken a strong interest in during my time as MP for Inverclyde.
Having previously met with a number of Internet Service Providers and Openreach, it’s clear to me that more needs to be done to provide greater access to high speed broadband. This will be something I highlight to the Minister for Digital and Culture and press upon him the frustration of a number of my constituents who are unable to get suitable broadband.
Many see high speed broadband as the fourth utility and it’s vital all parties work together to improve both the infrastructure and availability here in Inverclyde.
